In a week’s time, Yogi Adityanath will complete six months in the office as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. During an exclusive interview with the Indian Express, Yogi proudly spoke about the major achievements of his government in the past six months.

He said that the Yogi government has been successful in winning back the faith and confidence of the people and now the people feel safe and secure in the state. He further added that UP is now even attracting investors. Yogi told that the state government has shown clear transparency in its functions and governance and has also established the rule of law in the state. The UP Chief Minister said that during his election campaign he had promised transparent and corruption free governance and his government, so far has been successful in doing so.

Yogi also spoke about the government’s measures taken for the farmers. He said that his government is working for the welfare of the farmers and promoting and helping them by providing different schemes for them just like the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing. He boasted that he had even waived off the loans of the farmers with taking any loans from the centre or levying extra taxes on the people. He further informed that they were working towards doubling the income of the farmers.

“This year, we purchased wheat directly from farmers without middlemen. We have taken a step forward on employment as well. We have fixed a target of training 10 lakh youth within a year,” he said.

When questioned about the law and order situations in the state Yogi confidently said that there have been no riots in the state in the past 5 months. Alleging the previous government for giving shelter to the criminals he said that those who had been active earlier have either left the state or are returning back to the jail.

Further talking about the provision of providing electricity to all, Yogi said that the system of VIP electricity has been abolished now and now every district is treated equally. The government has decided that all district headquarters will get 24-hour electricity, tehsil headquarters and Bundelkhand will get 20 hours and rural areas will get 18 hours’ supply a day.

The Chief Minister during his interview also assured that no politics will be played in the name of caste and family. He said that SP and BSP badly failed in taking care of even their own castes. Now the people of Uttar Pradesh have realised that the caste and family politics are over, he said.

Talking about further enhancing the governance he said that “we are going to recruit over 40,000 policemen. In the next three years, we will provide employment to 1.5 lakh people in the police. We are going to bring full transparency in UPPSC (UP Public Service Commission), in teacher recruitment, subordinate selection commission, everywhere. We have already abolished the interview system for all Group C, D posts.”

When questioned about the alarming conditions of the education sector, Yogi replied that the government has realised that the education system in the state needs to be changed entirely and the officials are working towards it. He spoke about the ‘School Chalo‘ campaign launched by his government in July under which 1.53 crore students were given admission in the primary schools. He further said that the government officers and the elected representatives have been asked to adopt at least one school in their respective areas and develop it as a model school. Around 1000 schools have been developed under this initiative he added.

Adityanath further said that the government is also planning to introduce a new syllabus for primary, intermediate and, if necessary, at the higher education level as well, from the next session, making the students ready to compete at the all India level.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also claimed that under his rule the bureaucracy and the politicians are moving hand in hand together. He said that since he came to power he had given a copy of the Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra (BJP manifesto) and had asked them to implement the same and everyone has even been doing that. “I have been holding regular meetings, listening to their presentations on the progress of work on the implementation of the Sankalp Patra. I do not depend on my office alone, I do it myself. We evaluate this progress every week,” he added.

Yogi Adityanath also informed that he personally visits the districts and listen to the problems faced during the administration. He said that in the past 6 months he has taken a complete round of the state visiting the commissionary level in the first round. He further added that he has already begun with his second round of visits under which he will reach out to every district. In the third round, he will visit every tehsil and the fourth will be his reach to every tehsil. “From such visits, one will witness change everywhere. It will take time to improve the system which became rotten in the last 15 years. But we will change it for sure,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath also commented on the tragic Gorakhpur incident when the children had died due to oxygen deficiency. He said that the actions taken against the doctors was necessary to teach them a lesson and even give a clear message to all those who were deliberately trying to pull down the government that no lapses will be tolerated and no crime will be spared. He also said that Gorakhpur incident was presented in the wrong way, with wrong facts.

Concluding the interview Yogi Adityanath said that the government under his rule is dedicated for the development of the state and the betterment of the people. He said that his government has implemented an industrial policy which focuses on employment generation. The government has organised vocational education centres, skill development centres and many other institutions to promote opportunities for employment or self-employment in the state.

Finally, he added that Narendra Modi imposing faith in him had given him the responsibility of making Uttar Pradesh an idle state and he will make UP an example for India.
