Five of the Applications are pending with University Grants Commission for the grant of ‘Deemed to be University’ status, Rajya Sabha was told.
At Present, there are 125 educational institutions which are functioning as deemed to be universities so far.
When asked on Thursday whether the government has decided to redraw the norms for the status of ‘Deemed to be University’, Dr. Satya Pal Singh, The Minister of State for Human Resource Development replied that UGC has framed the draft UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations Act 2018 for replacing the existing regulations. The notification for the same has not arrived yet.
He added that the University Grants Commission has not prescribed the timeline for notifying about the draft regulations, which have been decided after consulting the stakeholders.
As soon as the notification for the regulations will arrive, the information for the same will reach to the people accordingly.
