DU teachers’ association, NSUI face police action

After the infamous lathi-charge on JNU Students by the police, another incident took place on Tuesday where DUTA (Delhi University Teachers’ Association) and NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) had to face water cannon and lathi-charges respectively by the police. NUSI was protesting against anti-students policies while DUTA was demanding the absorption of ad-hoc teachers.

NSUI activists were protesting against the anti-students policies by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) with ‘Chatra Adhikar’ rally by marching towards Parliament of India from mandi house. The police used force against the 58 Activists including 4 women, several of them were beaten and detained.

NSUI (National Students’ Union of India), founded in 1971 is a student wing of the Indian National Congress (INC) with almost 10 million members.

DUTA, on the other hand, faced water cannons during their protest against the August 28 circular and absorption demand of ad-hoc teachers at the ring road of the Delhi University campus. The police used force against them and water cannons to stop them.

DUTA (Delhi University Teachers’ Association) has been on the indefinite strike since December 4th, 2019 against revoking the August 28 circular which mandates the appointment of guest faculty.

Meanwhile, JNU Students are still on a protest against the hostel price hike for over a month and still waiting for HRD Ministry to fulfill their demands and requests.
