The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi recently announced that the government has allowed all Sainik schools across the country to admit girls and the schools are open for female students also.

On the Occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, the Prime Minister during his address to the public mentioned that “the prestigious Sainik Schools in the country will also be open for the daughter of our nation”.

The prime minister further added that two and a half years ago, the Sainik school in Mizoram began to admit girls as an initial experiment which resulted in positive outcomes from the students.

Based on these results, The central government came to the final decision of admitting girls in all Sainik schools which will empower female education and will also motivate girls to come forward and serve the nation.

PM Modi said that for a very long time, female candidates have shown interest to join the Indian armed forces from a very young age. And to foster these dreams, Sainik schools provide the ideal beginning to their journey.

Currently, there are 33 Sainik schools running across the country. These schools are established by the government with an aim to prepare the students from an early age for their entry into the armed forces and defense services of India.

Sainik Schools are operated and managed by the Sainik Schools Society which functions under the administrative department of the Ministry of Defence.

In the Union Budget of 2021-22, A provision to establish 100 new Sainik schools in collaboration with NGOs, Private schools, and state governments was announced.

This decision made by the central government was also appreciated by top military officials but they mentioned that the structure and working of these renowned institutions should not be tampered with.

Admission of students in Sainik Schools is conducted through an entrance examination held every year. The students are inducted at the middle-school level and can complete their secondary education at these schools.
