Andhra Pradesh assembly passes School Education Regulatory Bill

The Andhra Pradesh government led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday passed the Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the state legislative assembly to regulate the scope and standard of private junior colleges along with securing 20% reservation to the poor students.

Adimoolapu Suresh, Education Minister of Andhra Pradesh while presenting the bill said, the bill aims at improving the fee structure, standard and reservations to the poor sections along with bringing junior private colleges under the scope of the monitoring committee of the former High Court Judge.

As per the data provided by the state, there are currently 3,339 junior colleges in the state out of which 2,014 are private junior while 471 are government junior and 731 are in the government sector and 124 are government-aided junior colleges.

The Students in the 3,339 junior colleges are around 10 lakh with 40,000 faculty.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet passed the A.P. Disha bill, 2019 on Wednesday which will ensure death penality and verdicts in 21 days for the offenses of rapes and gang-rapes.
