Aspirants demand Opt-out option, extra attempts for ICAI CA Exams 2021

Aspirants going to appear in chartered accountancy (CA) exams has wrote a letter to the chief justice of India seeking the addition of opt-out option and extra attempts for the exam. Around 3 lakh students are set to take the CA exams organised by ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) which is scheduled on July 5.

Students have presented their demands to Chief Justice NV Ramana through the letter. Students have mentioned that an opt-out option must be available for the students who wish to skip the exam. Carry-Forward benefits should also be given to the students so that they don’t miss the opportunity to take exams later.

The demands also seek an extra attempt in case any student fails to appear in the exam on July 5 due to the circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of old course attempts should be extended for this. About 6000 students has signed the letter and requested the chief justice to consider their requests with top most priority.

The students in the letter have claimed that they have already presented their demands to the organizing body ICAI but has still not received any response from the other side. Even after several attempts, the students remained unheard and the institute has failed to address their concerns. Thus, students were forced to reach the chief justice of india.

The letter especially highlights a point that providing an opt-out option for students has been a “standard practice of the institute” since last exams held during the pandemic. But this year when situations are worse as compared to earlier, The institute has surprisingly removed this option when it is needed the most and was in favour of students.

In the CA exam held back in May 2020, the supreme court ordered ICAI to compulsorily provide the opt-out option. The same provision should be made this year as well, said the students. However, ICAI has already completed all the preparations for exam has assured to practice adequate measures for the safety of everyone.
