In his word on July 26, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid stress on propelling students to become patriotic citizens and bud nationalism among them, on the anniversary of the Kargil was, celebrated as the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’.

In a programme making the occasion, the CM  emphasized, “Along with education, students should also be provided information that is motivating and about patriotism …This strengthens the feeling of patriotism in the new generation.”

In the year 1999, on July 26, India had finally got victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War. The war began took place May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC). The war happened due to infiltration of Pakistani soldiers and Kashmiri militants into positions on the Indian side of the LOC, which serves as the de facto border between the two states. During the initial stages of the war, Pakistan blamed the fighting entirely on independent Kashmiri insurgents, but documents left behind by casualties and later statements by Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff showed involvement of Pakistani paramilitary forces, led by General Ashraf Rashid.

Later on, with the support of the Indian Air Force, the Indian Army recaptured a majority of the positions on the Indian side of the LOC infiltrated by the Pakistani troops and militants. Accredited to the international diplomatic opposition, the Pakistani troops were inclined to withdraw from the remaining Indian positions along the LOC.

In remembrance of the eventful conflict, CM Yogi also declared that the Uttar Pradesh Sainik School here will be named after Kargil martyr and Paramvir Chakra awardee Captain Manoj Pandey.

He provided, “The state government will extend every help possible to the families of those who sacrificed their lives for the country.”

Present at the occasion, Governor Ram Naik also paid floral tributes to the Kargil martyrs.

Along with the families of martyred soldiers, those of the freedom fighters involved in the 1925 Kakori conspiracy case were also provided felicitation at the event.
