CBSE 10th,12th Exams Fee Hike based on 'No profit, No loss' Principle : HRD Minister

On the 9th day of the winter session of Parliament, Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said, the increased fees for CBSE for the 10th and 12th Boards are based upon ‘No Profit, No Loss’ principle.

“So far as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools are concerned, the Board has increased the examination fees of class X and XII Board examination 2020 for all students on no profit no loss principle,” he said.

The fees hike by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is from ₹750 to ₹1200, the HRD Minister said when BJP MP Lal Sinh Vadodara asked about the recent hike announced by the central government.

“Education being a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitutions and a substantial majority of schools are under the jurisdiction of the State Governments, it is for the respective State Government to take a decision with regard to increase of examination fee for students in their schools,” the minister said in his reply.

CBSE board had said that a deficit of over ₹200 crores in conducting board exams for Class 10th and 12th had forced them to take the high road.

The minister said, out of the examination fees of ₹350 and ₹600 for class X and Class XI, only ₹50 was paid by SC/ST candidates of Government schools and other assisted Delhi government schools balance of ₹300 and ₹550 were paid by the Delhi’s NCT government along with Patrachar Vidhyalaya.

For 1299 schools in the Delhi, examination fees have been increased for class X students from ₹375 to ₹1200 and for class XII students from ₹600 to ₹1200. He further said CBSE does not charge extra money from any organization, it is a self-financed and self-reliant board.
