Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examination this year as the examination committee has announced new passing criterion for class 10 students appearing for board exams and permit for diabetic students to carry food.

Basic Food suppliments are allowed :

The board has  allowed students suffering from Type 1 diabetes to carry eatables during exam. It stated that among all the diabetic population of India, there is a sizeable number of children suffering with Type 1 diabetes and need insulin injections at regular intervals to manage their blood glucose level.

So, such students are permitted to carry eatables like sugar tablets, chocolate and candy, fruits like banana, apple and orange, snack items like sandwich and 500 ml bottle of water with them to the examination centre.

However, certain modalities have been prescribed by the Board and the diabetic students will have to submit a certificate from a specialist along with full diabetic history, nature of their diabetes and the need for snacks during the examination whichshall be forwarded by the principal of the school.

“The food items will be kept with the invigilators at the exam centre, and when the need arises they will be handed over the eatables,” the committee has advised.

Doctors in the Capital have advised students with a diabetic condition to carry small helpings and fruits to the examination hall. “Students can carry snacks, fruit salad comprising apple, pear and banana. They can also carry a sandwich,” advised Dr Atul Kakar, senior consultant at Department of Internal Medicine at Ganga Ram Hospital.

New criterion this year : 

Observing that the class 10th batch appearing for boards this year is coming from a different assessment background while they were in class 9 in 2017, the examination committee of CBSE has provided new passing criterion as a onetime measure where they need to secure 33 per cent to pass a subject.

“Students need to secure overall 33 per cent in – both internals and externals taken together – in a subject to be able to pass it,” the examination committee confirmed in its latest notification.
