With the cancellation of exams, the Supreme Court has asked the CBSE and CISCE boards to announce its results for class 10 and 12 by mid-July. The CBSE has presented its marking scheme and the evaluation strategy to the court. The CISCE board is yet to give its details.

The CBSE has given the option of the improvement exam only to class 12. However, the CISCE is likely to give its options to class 10 also. The CBSE has decided to evaluate the student’s marks based on best of three for students who have appeared for three or more exams and best of two for students who have appeared for three exams and the best of two subjects plus internal assessment for students with one or two exams. This was presented to the court and the court approved with this regard. The CISCE is planning to have a different policy, unlike CBSE.

To avoid any confusion, the counsel for the petitioner also informed to give the options for writing the exam within 2 weeks from the date of declaration of results. The solicitor general Tushar Mehta mentioned that “We are giving the option to students whenever the situation is conducive. It is a pro-students measure”

This decision was taken after many students and parents pleaded to not to have exams in this covid pandemic. These exams were canceled to ease out the pressure in the students and in parent’s minds.
