Today, Arvind Kejriwal who is the Chief Minister of Delhi, today ruled out all news of school reopening in the national capital. At an event the reporters stated that “For now the schools are not reopening”.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, earlier the government had announced till October 31  that schools would remain closed. Across the country since March 16, 2020, schools, colleges and universities  have been closed since the Centre announced a countrywide classroom shutdown was announced.

On March 25, a nationwide lockdown was imposed . Earlier Manish Sisodia tweeted that ” Till October 31 due to Corona all schools in Delhi will remain closed. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the concerned authorities understands the seriousness of the situation. At this time we are not ready to take any risk regarding the health of children,” .

In different phases of ‘unlock’, educational institutions continue to remain closed while several restrictions have been eased. However, according to the “unlock” phase guidelines, in phases states can take a call about reopening schools.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs, MHA, had passed the orders for schools to reopen after October 15, 2020. However, depending on the condition of the pandemic in the state educational institutions’ authorities and state governments are allowed to make their own choices to either reopen the schools or continue with online classes. On a voluntary basis from September 21, 2020, schools and colleges were allowed by MHA to call students but the Delhi government decided against it.
