Guwahati: Amid the scare of a new strain of Coronavirus, the Assam Government is all set to reopen the schools and other educational institutions from January 1, 2021. The state government will soon release the Standard Operating Producer (SOP’s) for the same.

The classes from Nursery to primary level will begin on January 1 in a staggered way, however, the attendance won’t be checked and online classes will keep continuing. The schools were closed in mid-March to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

The Assam Government, nonetheless, has not delivered any rules on the resuming of schools from January 1. While declaring the choice to return Nursery schools from January 1, Minister of Education Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier stated, “Detailed SOPs regarding reopening of nursery schools will be released soon by the state’s Education Department,” quoted NDTV.

Assam Government’s choice to resume schools for the elementary level will be dependent upon specific conditions – if COVID-19 cases decrease and guardians have no issue with sending their kids to the schools, Mr. Sarma earlier said.

“We have decided to reopen our hostel for the final year students of colleges and this includes residential schools. From January 1, we will try to reopen our school classes from nursery to class 5. So, elementary schools will open up if there is no spike in the COVID cases. Already in Assam schools and colleges are functional with COVID-19 norms barring elementary schools,” Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told NDTV earlier.
