The recent Delhi government’s order revealed eradicating ‘No Detention Policy’ and instead has decided to give student’s an option of opting for a vocational stream separate from the regular curriculum for getting promoted to the next grade.

From now onwards, the students who could not pass in Grades till VIII will be given an option of opting for the vocational stream, if they attend classes for the particular stream, they would not have to repeat the class. But this will only be an option, the students are not mandated to do so, they can choose to repeat the class.

“It has been suggested to the committee that students who fail in Class VIII be given the option to move into the vocational stream in Class IX instead of repeating another year. But only those students who want to opt for it will be promoted. If a student is not interested in the vocational stream, she/he will have to repeat Class VIII. No one will be forced to opt for the vocational stream,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

This policy is applied for all the schools in Delhi since all Delhi schools do not have a specific board, CBSE has been ordered to offer vocational subjects.

CBSE offers 14 vocational subjects, including automotive, security, front office operations, media, agriculture and food production for students in classes IX and X.

In Class XII, a total of 40 vocational subjects are offered which include subjects such as medical diagnostics, textile design, salesmanship, music production, and business administration.
