The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is yet again been instructed by the Delhi High Court to change its course. On Thursday, the court has commanded the board to re-evaluate Class 12 answer-sheets of all students who approach it. In aid of the students looking to get their answer-sheets re-evaluated, the bench of acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar lifted all conditions imposed by the CBSE and has also directed the board to lift the limit of number of subjects that are up for revaluation.

It has been made cleared by the desk that not just those students who approach the courts, but all students must be able to apply for revaluation.

“It cannot be denied that grave and irreparable loss and damage would entail to the petitioners so far as their admissions to colleges and universities are concerned. Balance of convenience is also in favour of the petitioners,” the court conveyed.

The board had released a circular on June 28 declaring revaluation open but with a bundle of heavy restrictions, including limiting the facility to scrutiny of marks to just 12 subjects — English Core, English Elective (CBSE), English Elective (NCERT), Hindi Core, Hindi Elective, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, Economics and Accountancy.

Another restriction imposed gave the student the right to demand for the scrutiny of only 10 questions in all.

This circular was challenged by four students, directing the course to this court order. These students had sneaked to the court seeking re-evaluation in subjects which were not mentioned in the circular provided by the CBSE.

Notices have been issued to the Centre, CBSE, and the Delhi University over the plea, and their replies are expected to come within the following 10 days. The next hearing is on July 26.
