Delhi High Court rejected the plea which sought the directions to the Centre and DU to introduce the dance courses in its varsity.

This was heard by a division bench consisting of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan. They said that the court cannot order the university as on what courses it should teach. The court also deliberated on the fact that the starting of any new course involves the drafting a syllabus, engagement of faculty, and various procedures that the university should take care of and not the court.

The court further said that the varsity should check on other institutions which teaches dance courses to get a clear view point.

“Why do you want to have everything in Delhi. You do not want to move left or right,” the court said. The plea was withdrawn after the court directed them to do so.

According to the petitioner, the Delhi University (DU) offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in vocal music and instrumental music. Hence, dance mustn’t be left out.

The petitioner remarked that by not teaching dance, it discriminates against the students who are good at dance and music.
