The Delhi High-Court has sought a response from the Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) for their allegations over their appointment of the Vice-Chancellor who was termed as “illegal”, “arbitrary” and contrary according to the UGC Guidelines by Sachin Maheshwari, a professor of NSUT.

A Notice has been issued by the judges G S Sistani and Jyoti Singh to NSUT, Vice Chancellor (VC) J P Saini, University Grant Commission (UGC) and the department of training and technical education of the Delhi government seeking their replies over the petition filed in four weeks.

“The chancellor has not applied his mind,” professor, who filed the petition, claimed.

Tarkeshwar Nath, who filed the plea, claimed that no search committee was employed, neither any applications were invited for shortlisting a person with high level of competency, integrity, institutional commitment, which are required for being a Vice-Chancellor.

It was further reported that Mr. Saini witnessed various allegations imposed on him for his misconduct and irregularities.

“Saini has several allegations of misconduct and irregularities against him, including that of plagiarism which otherwise disqualifies him to be appointed as vice-chancellor of a university,” it read.

The Plea filed through the advocate also claimed that Mr. Saini’s appointment was pre-determined, pre-decided and well planned. and the first-five Vice-chancellors that were appointed by the chancellor was against the guidelines laid down by the UGC.

“The change was made just to appoint Prof Saini as Vice Chancellor after conversion of the institute into a university,” it alleged.

“Even the formation of a search-cum-selection committee with members as enshrined under the said notification is contrary to UGC Guidelines… No member nominated by the chairman of the UGC has been placed in the committee and therefore, is illegal and unsustainable,” it said.
