Yesterday marked the beginning of Delhi University’s academic session for all undergraduate courses. This time around, many ragging reports surface, officially and unofficially. So, to create awareness among the freshers about ragging, a street play was performed by the Hansraj College.
The fear of ragging among freshers is so high that some even avoid coming to the college at all in the initial days. Even the police runs frequent patrols in and around the campus so that a team can be sent as soon as something wrong happens. However, the students need to be their own backup so as to not fall the a miserable situation in the first place.
In case of threat or ragging, file a complaint:
–Write down the complaint and drop it into college complaint box.
– Call the National Anti-Ragging helpline number 1800 180 5522.
– Call the Joint Control Rooms (North Campus- 27667221; South Campus- 24119832).
– Call 100 or inform your nearest PCR van.

When seniors socially interact with the juniors in an abusive manner- emotionally or physically, and can become something very disturbing. Although there exists a term ‘healthy ragging’, there is barely such a thing exercising in colleges. Anyway, when crossed the road over to ‘inhumane ragging’, it is a criminal offence. All kinds of obscenity comes under the umbrella of ragging.
As per the rules of the university, any student caught abusing or harassing the juniors, s/he might become subjected to annulment of his/her admission, leading them to be barred from appearing in the examinations. Laws of IPC can even lead to strong penal action or even imprisonment. To curb this menace in universities, the University Grants Commission had passed regulations in 2009.
