Its likely to be seen than Delhi Government Standing Committee has formulated some changes in the existing curriculum of Delhi University. The changes have been made after the recommendation by the administration, which has been taken into consideration in the committee meeting held this Thursday (18th April, 2019)

The committee subsume many changes as per the agenda released by standing committee of Delhi University’s Academic Council (AC).

Introduction of ‘Online Calculator’

It has been decided to introduce an online calculator in the admission software to help students automatically calculate their “best four” percentage required to get admission in undergraduate courses.

“Every college has its own criteria of selecting “best four” subjects while calculating percentage of candidates during admissions. For instance, some colleges make it mandatory to include mathematics while calculating the best-four percentage for several courses and some do not. It creates confusion. The same criteria should be followed by all colleges and recommended that a central course-wise merit list, shall be released by the university’s admission committee,” said a standing committee member, requesting anonymity.

Hike in fee

To avoid multiple cancellation of admission by students, the committee has recommended doubling the cancellation fee from existing Rs. 500 to 1,000. The admission fee has also been decided to be revised.

“For undergraduate courses, the admission fee for General and OBC candidates to be increased by Rs. 100 and for SC/ST, EWS and PWD candidates it can be revised by Rs 25. Additional fee of Rs. 100 may be charged per correction exercised by the candidate on online forms before the declaration of first admission list.”

Revision in ECA Quota

The committee has decided to curb the choice of sports and co-curricular activities for aspirants. Earlier the students could apply for as many as sports and extra curricular activities according to their choice.

” Many aspirants apply under co-curricular activities that are similar in nature, such as dance and choreography, theater and nukkad natak etc. So, many of us have recommended streamlining it by limiting the choices,” a committee member said.

Now the committee has authorized the percentage of ECA quota and sports admission to impose it not more than 10% so that everyone gets equal opportunity.

The standing committee is waiting for the nod by academic council on its released agenda.
