The Mumbai University has de-affiliated Sydenham, Elphinstone, Institute of Science and Secondary Training Colleges. The State Government released the notification for the establishment of Dr. Homu Bhabha State University, termed as the first Cluster in the state. It has been reported according to the guidelines that students who will be admitted to this university, will no longer be a part of Mumbai University. The students with the ongoing batch will continue to write exams for Mumbai University but will be considered as the last batch to receive a degree from Mumbai University.
The notification stated that these colleges will no longer work under Mumbai University, the various functions that the de-affiliated university would perform will include the offering of a new degree, diploma, and certificate courses to the newly admitted students, autonomy to create their own fee fixation committee. It will be governed by a general council, which will include government and industry representatives.
Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, Institute of Science, Fort and constituent colleges that includes the de-affiliated colleges will now have to apply for new university to be affiliated to a new one.
