The difficulties of students aspired to take admission in Delhi University (DU) have been high this season. Whether it is the struggle of paying the fees online or it is the inability to generate admission slips- a fair share of technical errors have been a big obstacle in front of a large number of aspired candidates.

On Monday, given the gruesome situation, many candidates along with their parents queued up outside the help desk office at the north campus’ conference centre, requesting the university to do away with all the glitches.

Monday was scheduled to begin admissions on the basis of the second cut-off list. “I do not know what the problem is but I could not find the college I wanted to take admission in. Not knowing what to do, I had to come here all the way. I have been told to submit an application, but I am worried now as Tuesday is the last day for admission under the second list,” said Abhinandan Shah, an aspirant of Vivekananda College.

Another technical glitch causing a hindrance for aspirants is the inability to log in to make online fee payments. And even for those who have made the fee payment are not elated and are facing difficulty generating the receipt. This generation of receipt is important because students need to carry this receipt to get entry into the college on the first day.

As per the records from DU officials, of the total approved 22,847 admissions, only 19,000 seats have been secured with the payment of fees. The figures also state that with 22,847 seats approved,  33,153 are still up for admission in 61 colleges. However, the third list information will only be provided by the colleges once admissions for the second list close down on Tuesday.

“Today (Monday), there were fewer students who came for admission. Just seeing the data till today, I think there will be no third list for BCom (Hons) general seats,” said Mallika Kumar, HOD of Commerce at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). Seats have been filling fast at other colleges as well, such as Ramjas. 1,000 of 1,334 seats have already been secured.

Gargi College too had only about 300 seats as of yesterday. “There will certainly be a third list, with some courses closed for the general category students. As there is still a day left for admission, and with students withdrawing to move to other colleges, a clear picture will emerge on Tuesday,” says an admission committee member from Ramjas College.

The third cut-off list is scheduled to be declared on July 7.
