For students of higher education institutions, the Ministry of Education will be organising a hackathon . Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank who is our Education Minister wrote on Twitter that “The toy market has huge potential and the students can play a vital role in harnessing it. Hence, a hackathon  will be held soon for the students of Higher Education Institutions by @EduMinOfIndia. We will be looking for innovations in toy technology and design, including online games, to reflect Indian ethos and values”.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked to boost manufacturing and global imprint of Indian toys, the announcement was made regarding the same. Prime Minister stated that India is home to several toy clusters and thousands of artisans who are responsible for producing indigenous toys which not only have cultural connect but also play a major role in building life-skills among children at an early age.  As informed by government official statement, he stated that through innovative and creative methods clusters should be promoted.

Under ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ campaigns, this is part of the ‘Vocal for Local’ .

Across all Anganwadi centres and schools for all-round development of children, Prime Minister had said toys which are aligned with Indian culture and ethos should be used as pedagogical tools . Modi said that our country has full potential and  should tap  in this area and by developing games which are highly inspired by Indian culture and folk tales it would also lead the international digital gaming sector one day .

For the toy hackathon, just like any other hackathon, students will have to develop a design from ideation to product format in limited time.  On the innovation aspect, the judgement of toys will take place. While the process of  has not yet started, it is very much expected to be released soon. The competition will take place among the candidates at the national level.
