EWS quota : Jamia Millia Islamia to not implement 10% reservation

Jamia Millia Islamia mentioned its minority status and it will not implement its 10% quota for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates.

The university in its academic council meeting on Monday decided that it won’t send University Grant Commission (UGC) its seat matrix requirements and infrastructure needs.

The Union HRD ministry had asked the central educational institution to implement the EWS quota from 2019-2020 session. The institutions were told to provide programme wise seat matrix by January 31. JNU sent it on February 1 while DU is still collecting its data.

“We found that as we are a minority institution, we won’t be applicable to the EWS quota”, said an Academic Council member on the condition of anonymity. He added,”UGC has already said certain institutes and minority institutions will not come under this new system”.
