Chandigarh Parents Association (CPA) has filed complaints against six private schools on Tuesday to the UT Education Department stating the institutions were seeking unnecessary documents from the parents of EWS (Economically Weaker Section). Upon which, the District Education Officer (DEO), Chandigarh on Wednesday issued a letter asking the schools to submit their response by Monday morning.

The letter was addressed to principals of the six schools – Aanchal International School, Delhi Public School, Shishu Niketan Public School, Bhawan Vidhyalay school, Strawberry Fields school, and Sri Aurobindo School.

The President of CPA, Nitin Goyal wrote the complaint saying the six schools were asking unnecessary documents besides Residential Proof and Family Income Affidavit signed by the Sub-Divisional Office and harassing the parents.

The additional documents include Proof of Residence for the last 3 years, PAN and Aadhar Card copy and bank account statements for the last 3 years.

The schools refused to ask any such unnecessary documents. Atul Khanna, Director of Strawberry Fields School said, “There are no discrepancies on our behalf. We only asked for Address Proof and income certificate authorized by the SDO office. We are not sure why was the letter send to us, we have sent a clarification on Friday promptly.”

As per guidelines prescribed by the Right to Education (RTE), private schools have to reserve 25% of seats for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) of the society.
