The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched an e-course on ‘Vulnerability Atlas of India‘ with the objective to create awareness and understanding about natural hazards on Thursday.

The e-course would be offered jointly by the School of Planning and Architecture, and Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC).

About Vulnerability Atlas of India :

Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has released the Third Edition of Vulnerability Atlas of India on the occasion of Global Housing Technology Challenge Construction on 2nd March , 2019 at New Delhi.

The third edition of Vulnerability Atlas of India is brought out by BMTPC and is contains :

  • The existing hazard scenario for the entire country and presents the digitized State/UT-wise Hazard Maps with respect to Earthquakes,
  • Winds & Floods for district-wise identification of vulnerable areas.
  • This edition contains additional digitized maps for Thunderstorms, Cyclones and Landslides.
  • The Atlas also presents the district-wise Housing Vulnerability Risk Tables based on wall types and roof types as per 2011 Census Housing data.
  • The Atlas is a useful tool not only for public but also for urban managers, State & National Authorities dealing with disaster mitigation and management.

Hardeep Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs said, ” The e-course would be a tool for effective and efficient disaster mitigation and management in the field of architecture, civil engineering, urban and regional planning, housing and infrastructure planning, construction engineering.”

The Ministry also announced the launched “Angikaar Campaign“, which aims to converge with schemes/services of various urban missions and other central ministries.
