The Allahabad High Court has asked the state government of Uttar Pradesh to submit a report on the appointment of 68,500 assistant basic education teachers in the state. The report due on September 20, will provide insight into the progress which has followed from the inquiry into the irregularities in the appointment process.

The judicial bench of Lucknow High Court took serious notice of the complaint and issued the call for a progress report on Monday, September 17.

The bench of Justice Irshad Ali also directed for details of particular cases and actions, if any, taking against erring officers. The bench added that the appointment made would be subject to more orders passed in the future, related to the petition filed by a candidate Sonika Devi. The latter has also demanded the revaluation of her answer sheet.   

The committee compiling the report is constituted by members of the state government and is due today.
