The High Level meeting held on sunday chaired by the union defence minister Rajnath Singh ended with mixed outcomes from the education ministers of different states and UTs. The meeting was held over the concern of conduction of Class 12 exams.

The centres point-of-view on exams: The Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank after the meet said that states have came up with various suggestions. Although the states have a board consensus over conducting class 12 exams, an collaborative and informed decision will be made June 1.

However, it is said that the meeting concluded with no common agreement between the states and the centre. The central government presented two options to the states for conduction of exams but none of the option got satisfactory support.

The first option was to hold the exams for only main subjects like science, maths, commerce, etc. And the other option was to reduce the duration of exams from 3 hours to 1.5 hours with paper based on Multiple-Choice questions (MCQs) and short questions only.

The Mixed Opinions of States: The state of Maharashtra and Delhi stood against the decision of conducting exams. They demanded a third option of alternative assessment of students. The Deputy CM of delhi, Manish Sisodia said that Delhi government is with students and would not risk their lives for the sake of exams.

Few states including Tamil Nadu and Uttar pradesh have agreed to conduct offline exams bu conventional method. UP deputy Education minister said that we are all ready and set to hold exams. The majority of students have also agreed to appear in exams.

While some other states demanded for the option of conducting exams later when situations normalise. The board can also evaluate the students on the basis of internal assessment with alternate option of taking exams if they are not satisfied with the assessment scores.

Conclusion of the meet by Rajnath Singh: At the end, the Union defence minister concluded the meeting with the point that all suggestions will be discussed thoroughly with higher authorities and “priority will be given to conducting all exams amid safety.” A confirmation over the exams can now be expected very soon.
