The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta on May 15 celebrated the Annual Convocation Ceremony. The convocation was held virtually due to the limitations because of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

The Chief economic advisor of central government and an alumnus of the institute, Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian appeared as the honorary Chief Guest in the event and shared his experiences and thoughts in a brief talk with the students.

In the Ceremony, 462 students of the 56th batch of Two-year flagship MBA programme and 61 students of the One-year MBAEx programme were awarded with there degrees. The institute also honoured 14 Phd Degrees to students of research fellowship.

For Post graduate diploma programmes, 36 students received the degree of Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX VLM) and 57 students received the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) programmes.

The institute also announced a new award for doctoral students which is named as “The Nirmal Chandra Memorial Doctoral Student Award”. This award will be granted to the PhD student qualifying with Highest CGPA. Other awards are also been honoured to 15 students for their individual academic achievements.

The chief guest of the event, Dr. Subramanian also exchanged few words with the students. He said that self trust is the key factor while chasing a successful career. The one who underestimates himself need to build trust. He referred the students as the young future leaders.

Dr. Subramanian himself being an alumni of the institute shared his past experiences. He mentioned, “when I remember some of those classes, I still get goosebumps”. He advised the students that being from this institute is an honour and one should obey in a trustworthy manner.

In his highly motivating speech, Dr. Subramanian mentioned about the contribution of parents in making a student reach this level. He highlighted the importance of teamwork in an organisation and also guided students to always stay grounded and never let success to dominate on yourself.
