The Indian Institute of Management Rohtak has become the first IIMs to start the new semester. They commenced the semester from June 19 digitally. Some of the IIMs such as including IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Bangalore had started its session but only for the executive courses only.

Further, the Institute has considered a huge response from the female candidates by enrolling 69 percent females in its PGP batch. The 2017 batch has seen only 9 % enrollments from the female candidates.

The IIM decided to conduct its own admission process, leaving the CAP. The IIM-Rohtak shortlisted 8000 candidates for the interview from the 1.6 lakh enrollments. From this, more than 240 students joined the course.

The director of the IIM Rohtak, Dheeraj Sharma told that the new batch will receive only online coaching till the institution reopens. The students will be given online assignments and tests once a session is over. He also informed the institute will take additional care in increasing the session hours in order to facilitate a smooth rapport between the students and the teachers. IIM-Rohtak has introduced several courses in a combined format such as one year PGP course for working executives, two-year sports management course among others.

The director mentioned that they reached out to the applicants who were eligible for admissions to IIMs and asked them to consider IIM Rohtak. They report that their strength lies in the ability to conduct the classes amid the covid pandemic. In addition to that, they have tied up with the five banks to facilitate loans for fee payment. Their research works also seem to attract students.

The institute conducted a two-day-long convocation to facilitate the new batch for the upcoming academic tenure. The chief guest Suresh Prabhu said that “The biggest challenge of management is when you are managing an unknown problem, and being future managers, students should focus on the same considering the current situations.” He also added that “There will be certain externalities that will have a lot of impact on business and may disrupt, so while focusing on academic learning, students should focus on other knowledge as well from society.”

The other dignitaries who attended the program include Ajay Srinivasan, Chief Executive, Aditya Birla Capital, Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Chairman V Guard Industries, Madnesh Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and KVR Murthy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
