The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) for establishing Petaflop, a measurement for determining power of how quickly the calculations can be done, computing facility and data center, for which the funds are provided by National Supercomputing Mission. This will change the computer-based research and development in India, informed the Institute on Tuesday along with the announcement of the signing of MoU.

The statement added that this development will help in further researches conducted in the institute.

IIT Kharagpur Director Prof P P Chakrabarti said the development will be under Centre for Computational and Data Sciences, located in the institute, it has also been reported that large-scale computational support will be provided to the researchers who are involved in the research culture in various disciplines.

The facility is likely to be functional in the next 3-4 months. the research will involve activities related to ‘assembling, assembling and manufacturing and design and manufacturing,’ as quoted by Director General, C-DAC, Dr. Hemant Darbar.

The C-DAC is an R&D organization functional under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
