The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur recently announced that it will offer a full scholarship for students who have secured the top 100 All India ranks (AIR) in the JEE Advanced 2021 Exam.

The scholarship is entitled “Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Full Scholarship for Top 100 JEE rankers”. This scholarship is a first-of-its-kind initiative started by a central institute of national importance in India.

The announcement regarding this scholarship was made by Prof. Virendra Kumar Tewari, the Director of IIT Kharagpur, at the 71st foundation day programme of the institute held at its campus.

While announcing the scholarship, Prof. Tewari said that the higher education of any meritorious student must not be limited due to financial constraints and they too deserve to study in quality institutes.

He further added that IIT Kharagpur has taken the responsibility and privilege to support all such talented, young minds of our country and provide them higher education irrespective of their financial situation.

The scholarship is named after Pandit Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay who was an Indian philosopher and had expertise in the Sanskrit language. Owing to this, he was awarded the title of ‘Vidyasagar’ which means the ocean of knowledge.

About the Scholarship

The students who secured this scholarship will get free education till they complete their bachelor’s degree. IIT Kharagpur will cover all the expenses of this student who opt for any 4-year BTech course from the institute.

The Institute will consider those students for this scholarship whose parents’ gross annual income is less than 20 Lakh rupees per annum. The scholarship will be implemented from the current academic session 2021-22.

Along with the full academic fees, the scholarship will also cover other cost of education of a student such as accommodation expenses, exam fees, textbooks, meals, and gadgets.

The scholarship will also provide other miscellaneous allowances to students such as traveling expenses, personal expenses, and other living costs. This will also include a fixed amount for out-of-pocket expenses.
