The IITs of the country have extended their Ph.D. applications for the students of Jammu & Kashmir as they couldn’t apply within the fixed schedule due to the unavailability of Internet Connection, it was the time when special status granted to J&K under Article 370 was scrapped. The new respective dates have been announced on the websites of the IITs, says report.

IIT Dharwad, Delhi, Tirupati, Bhilai, Palakkad, and Bombay have stretched their Ph.D. applications for the students of Jammu & Kashmir.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) led by Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has asked all the IITs to extend their application procedures for J&K students after receiving requests from students. “Requests from J&K students have flooded the ministry who intend to apply for the Ph.D. program in various IITs in the view of the unavailability of Internet connectivity in the past. All the IITs were requested to consider the requests, said MHRD.

The special status granted to the Jammu & Kashmir state under Article 370 was removed in August 2019 with no internet facility and cellular network, section 144 imposed, schools and colleges shut down and people under house arrest. It was reconstituted into a Union Territory with an effect from October 31, 2019, with everything restored to its formal state.

For candidates belonging to other parts of the country, the application process has been completed.
