IITs-Gandhinagar, IIT-Kharagpur, NCSM to develop ‘Gandhipedia’

On the 150th birth anniversary of the father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, two IITs and NCSM have decided to create a  ‘Gandhipedia’, which will be an online repository of books, speeches, and letters written by him.

IIT Kharagpur, IIT Gandhinagar, and NCSM (National Council of Science Museums) have joined hands to unveil the significant history of Mahatama Gandhi.

The entire project will be performed with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence). In the first phase, over 40 books will be digitized and classified and their portions will be tweeted, said IIT Kharagpur. The first phase will be completed by March 2020 and the next four phases by March 2024.

“The books will be used to reconstruct the social media of Gandhi, including those who have influenced him and people whom he had inspired,” said IIT Kharagpur.

IIT Kharagpur founded in 1952 is the 4th best IIT in the country. It is one of the first IITs to be established and recognized as the Institute of National level. While IIT Gandhinagar founded in 2008 is ranked 15th among the best IITs in the country. Both the IITs offer the best graduate and undergraduate education in India.

NCSM (National Council of Science Museums) is the largest chain of science centers and museums under a single government in the world with over 24 NCSMs across the country.
