Inquiry demanded into textbook on the portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in poor light

Probe demanded into textbook depicting Mahatma in poor light

An Aam Aadmi Party (AAM) MP, Sanjay Singh during ‘Zero Hour’ in the winter session of the Parliament asked a probe should be launched into a textbook of Madhya Pradesh depicting Mahatma Gandhi ‘The Father of the Nation’ in poor light. He said, “Mahatma Gandhi was described as ‘Drunkard and Wicked Man’ was shameful and some action should be immediately taken against it.”

“The Module book for school students was widely circulated in the state with Gandhi compared to a ‘Kubuddhi’ (Evil).”

This news is disturbing when India is about to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation. These are cases of misleading publicity being done against him like his picture appearing on the liquor bottle in Israel and his killer ‘Nathuram Godse’ being called a patriotic, he said.

“There should be an investigation against the textbook defaming Mahatma Gandhi and immediate actions must be taken,” he demanded.

Meanwhile, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Gandhinagar are collaborating with the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) to create ‘Gandhipedia’, which will be an online depository of books, speeches and letters written by him.
