The Jamia Hamdard University of New Delhi has planned to introduce NCC (National Cadet Council) as a general elective course with credit points from the upcoming academic session 2021-22.
The addition of NCC in university’s curriculum is an step towards the implementation of new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This will also establish the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) mentioned in the NEP.
Jamia Hamdard has received positive response towards this initiative from teachers and students. While educationists remarked this as an revolutionary step taken in the better interest of students.
The university’s motive behind this is to inspire todays youth to join services like NCC inorder to serve the nation in difficult times like the pandemic. This will also give a rise to the feeling of patriotism among students.
With the introduction of such more courses and further implementation of NEP 2020, the students will not be limited to the subjects that are compulsary in the curriculum. Rather, students can select the subjects as per their choice and interest.
As informed by Dr. M Afshar Alam, the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, the students will be awarded with credit points after successful completion of this NCC course.
This credit points will enable the students to qualify their respective degrees. The ultimate aim of this course is make the learning more holistic and skill oriented which will lead an approach towards practical life experiences.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the students who choose NCC elective course will also receive the NCC certificates along with the academic credit points. This Certificates will benefit the students in their future.
As per the guidelines for Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) under NEP 2020, The B and C certificate courses of NCC will be offered which are worth 24 credit points and will cover 6 semesters or 3 years of the degree.
The breakup of credit points will be as follows;
- 1st and 2nd Semester- 4 credit points
- 3rd and 4th semester- 10 credit points
- 5th and 6th semester- 10 credit points
