The Jamia Hamdard University has launched a new postgraduate (PG) course, M.Sc. (Masters of Science) in Medical Virology. The course is being offered from the current academic session 2021-22.

The registration process for this MSc course is currently underway. Interested candidates can apply for this postgraduate course till September 15 on the official website of University, http://Jamiahamdard.edu.

The Medical Virology course will cover several new concepts into the virus biology and cellular functions through the study of viruses. The course will also explore different aspects related to COVID-19.

In order to be eligible for this course, the applicant must hold a bachelors degree like BSc, BVSc, BTech or MBBS in any relevant specialization like Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Science, Biochemistry or any other.

The candidate must have qualified in the undergraduate degree with at least 50 percent score or equivalent grades and from any recognised university or college in the country.

The time duration for MSc Medical Virology course is of two years which will include both theoretical classes and hands-on training and practices in the latest technologies of this discipline.

Prof. M Afshar Alam, the vice-chancellor of Jamia Hamdard said that the university has introduced this course with an aim to encourage the studies related to viral diseases and their treatment.

Prof. Alam mentioned that even now our country lacks well-equipped laboratories and developed infrastructure in the field of virology but such facilities are necessary to combat the endemics live COVID.

The university through this new course will produce such well-trained experts and laboratory professionals which can serve during emergency situations and provide a rapid response to minimize the risk.

The MSc Medical Virology course is a more research-based program which focuses more providing quality training to students for using advanced tools and techniques in the field of virology, added Prof. Alam.

The students will be trained for design of project, experimental design, execution of the experiments, data collection, data analysis and publication through dissertation in a research lab or industry.
