Jammu & Kashmir: All schools, colleges and educational institutes in J&K to remain closed till December 31

Till December 31, all schools, colleges and other educational institutes in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir would remain closed. As per the official notice released by the administration, for getting assistance from teachers only the students of classes 9 to 12 would be permitted to visit school on voluntary basis. For all other purposes, the schools and colleges would remain closed.

The order reads, “All schools, colleges, higher educational institutions (including Anganwadi centers), etc. will continue to remain closed till December 31, 2020 except training institutions run by the central/state government.” Schools and higher educational institutes would continue with online and distance learning.

As for the teaching and non-teaching staff, as per the earlier guidelines issued, schools and colleges may permit 50 per cent capacity. The teachers and non-teaching staff are permitted to attend school for the purpose of online teaching/tele-counselling and related work. Also, the permission is only for the areas that are outside the containment zones.

According to the Unlock 5.0 Guidelines issued by the centre, the students of classes 9 to 12 outside the containment zones may attend the schools on their own volition for seeking guidance from teachers.

As for colleges and other higher educational institutes, only the research scholars and PG students in science and technical streams who require laboratory settings for experimental work may attend their colleges, with the requisite SOPs in place.
