With the first-time ever provision to the engineering aspirants of two attempts for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2019 exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the notification for both the sessions. Candidates will be able to access and download the JEE Main 2019 information brochure through the official website of NTA – nta.ac.in.

The information brochure contains the detailed information on the two sessions of the JEE Main 2019 exam. This includes the syllabus for all three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics), examination mode, eligibility criteria and list of examination centers, along with the admission details.

The information brochure also describes the registration and application process of JEE Main 2019. Although the candidates will be able to find the detailed information of JEE Main 2019 in the official information brochure, the below sections will provide them with the extract of the same.

JEE Main 2019 – Schedule

The first session of the JEE Main 2019 will be carried out from January 06 to 20, 2019, whereas the second session will commence from April 06 to 20, 2019. The eligible candidates will be able to register for the JEE Main 2019 – Session I through the official website of NTA from September 01 to 30, 2018.

Post successful registration, the enrolled candidates will be able to download their admit card through the official website of NTA from December 17, 2018. Paper I (for the B.Tech. courses) of the JEE Main 2019 exam for each of the two sessions will be scheduled in eight sittings.

The exam on every scheduled day will be carried out in two separate shifts. The morning shift will start from 9:30 am and end at 12:30 pm. The afternoon shift will start from 2:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm. Candidates will have to specify their choice of date and shift for attempting the exam during their online registration for JEE Main 2019.

Paper II (for the B.Arch. and B.Planning courses) of the JEE Main 2019 exam will be carried out in only one shift of every scheduled day. Post completion of all the sittings of the Session I exam, result will be declared on January 31, 2019.

In case the candidates are not satisfied with their Session I result of the JEE Main 2019 exam, or if they could not appear in it for any reason, they may attempt the Session II. For this, they will have to register for JEE Main 2019 – Session II from February 08, 2019 to March 07, 2019 through the official website of NTA.

Once registered successfully in compliance with the requirements, candidates can download their admit cards for Session II from March 18, 2019. The results of the Session II exam will be declared on April 30, 2019. The All India Rank (AIR) will be calculated for the candidates based on their best performance amongst their attempts in both the sessions of the JEE Main 2019 exam.

Based on the AIR, candidates will be able to attend their counselling for getting admissions to the undergraduate engineering courses at various NITs and other reputed engineering institutions across the country. Additionally, the same would also be a qualifying criterion to make them eligible for registering for the JEE Advanced 2019 exam.

JEE Main 2019 – Examination Pattern

Both the sessions of the JEE Main 2019 exam will follow the same pattern. The exam will have 90 multiple choice questions to be attempted in three hours. Each of the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects will cover 30 questions.

The exam will be held only in the online or computer-based mode. Each question will carry 4 marks, and 1 mark will be deducted from the total score of the candidate for each incorrect attempt. There is no negative marking for unattempting any question.

JEE Main 2019 – Eligibility Criteria

Following are the high-level eligibility pointers of the JEE Main 2018 exam:

  • Candidates must have qualified in class 12th in 2017/2018 or appearing for the same in 2019.
  • Candidates should have scored at least 75% marks in class 12th. For SC, ST, OBC and PWD candidates, the marks requirement is 65%. If the candidates could not score the mentioned percentage of marks, they should be in top 20 percentile in their class 12th examinations to be eligible for JEE Main 2019. Additionally, the candidates going to appear in their 12th class examinations in 2019 will be required to produce a proof of their qualifying marks during their counselling.
  • Those candidates, who have already appeared in the JEE Main three times earlier are ineligible.
