Recently a glitch has been found in the higher education offered by JNTU-H (Jawahalal Nehru Technology University- Hyderabad). The students have committed that the course they have pursued ‘B.Tech Agriculture Engineering’ is not giving after results at par.

The course attracted many students to pursue from this university as it was a course purely on agriculture with a mix of engineering skills aimed at tackling rising challenges in the field of agriculture.

It was introduced in the university in 2012, however it was later on dissolved in 2014 due to some reasons. But the batches, who had already pursued the undergraduate course in the time span of 2 years are struggling to find employment in the field.

The students alleged that they have no further options to pursue higher education in this field after graduation. They say the programme is also not recognized by ICAR (Indian Council for Agricultural Research).

One of the alumni, who pursued the similar course from JNTU said “The PG entrance test does not provide us with any option while the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) too does not recognize agricultural engineering for any Ph.D course.”

The students have also raised a demand to the government-

  • Employment opportunities to be provided them in the agricultural and related sectors where the Telangana government is focusing on.
  • Create a separate Department of Agricultural Engineering on the lines of the ones in Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

Prof. A. Venugopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of JNTUH says “The University has been looking into options that could be provided to these graduates. The students presented to us recently and we will discuss how best we can find a solution to their concerns.”

Meanwhile”Students can pursue certain courses such as Biotechnology, Nano Technology, Water Resources and Geospatial Technology at the P.G level,” he added.
