In a statement, the Jawaharlal Nehru University, or JNU has stated that it will be closed till August 31. The decision of keeping the university closed comes after the Unlock 3 guidelines of Ministry of Home Affairs. Till further notice, the university has asked students to stay wherever they are, and not to come back to the campus.

The statement added that according to the earlier guidelines, the administrative and other university will function will continue during this time.

Till August 31, all schools, colleges and coaching institutes will remain closed. Based on the feedback which has been received from union territories and states, the new guidelines were issued on July 29. The decision came after consulting with Central Departments and Ministries.

The JNU statement read that: “In continuation of the office notifications dated…the University shall remain closed till 31st August, 2020.”

During the COVID-19, students have been asked to stay at their respective places and not to return back to campus. In India, the case is increasing rapidly, so it becomes important that the safety and health of the students are given priority. Classes are  being continued in schools and colleges online.
