The Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) has decided to introduce a new skill course on artificial intelligence (AI). This course is for students of classes 6 to 11 in the upcoming academic session. A total of 12 hours will be dedicated for this course.

Initially, the KVs will select 2 teachers from each school and give them appropriate training for the course. As of now, around 100 schools have decided to opt the course which totals to 200 teachers for training. Firstly, the training will be held by the Zonal Institute of Education and Training (ZIETs). After that 198 trained teachers will further be trained by the Intel representatives. These teachers are set to teach for class 8.

The KVs have to register with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) before June 30 to inculcate this course. The curriculum is available in the CBSE website. Previously in April, the board announced that it will introduce new courses for the upcoming academic year.

In addition to that, CBSE has also introduced ‘Design-thinking’ and ‘Physical Activity Trainer as skill courses along with AI. Also, the Board is already offering 17 skill subjects at the secondary level and 38 skill subjects at the senior secondary level.

The CBSE mentioned in a statement that, “Mainstreaming all forms of learning and skills will integrate not just the hands-on skilling component but also the theoretical knowledge, attitudes and mindsets, and soft skills that are required for particular occupations, through a broad-based education that is necessary for students to be able to take on and thrive in a fast-changing world.”
