According to the Election Commission in Maharashtra, 50,000 teachers of Class 10 and 12, will not be enrolling for Lok Sabha election duties.

Assistant Chief Electoral Officer A N Walvi Wednesday informed through the release of an official notification about excluding 50,000 teachers of Class 10 and 12 from the Lok Sabha elections, due to the upcoming boards.

The Elections are scheduled to be conducted in four stages in the state between April 11 and April 29, 2019.

After consulting various departments, the electoral office decided to exclude teachers from poll duties. Other Teachers except for Class 10 and 12 teachers were not excluded. The Election duties hold responsibilities including undergoing training for the process, working at booths on days of voting and counting, collecting poll material etc.

However, teachers argue that due to poll duties, a lot of their time is wasted, as before the elections are conducted they are called for training.
