The government withdrew the proposal of the three postgraduate programs offered by MDI-Gurgaon. This was ranked in the country’s top 20 management institutes this year.

The AICTE withdrew the approval for the postgraduate program in energy management, a postgraduate program in public policy management and the postgraduate diploma in management (Executive Management Programme). This has also brought down the maximum intake to 500 seats from 770 seats, for the academic year 2020-21.

The AICTE claims that, this program has been derecognized for violating AICTE norms on course duration. IIM have scheduled a course duration of 1year while the UGC norms mandates to keep it for 2 years.

The public policy management programme is meant for civil servants and public officials from central and state governments. However, the institute’s website claims that the energy management programme aims to “prepare visionary leaders for the energy sector”.

Further the institute management did not fire safety certificates for 34 out of 36 buildings on campus and proper building plan approvals.

The council allowed the institute to continue with other programs with a “strict warning”. It has also asked to submit a report rectifying the issues told by the expert committee of the Council within six months. After verifying all compliances, the council might recognise the programs it withdrew.

20 students have been enrolled in the executive management programme which was started in April. It is still unclear on the state of students. MDI-Gurgaon was ranked 11th in the NIRF ranking.
