The Mumbai University (MU) has announced to soon release the annuals funds of Rs. 3 Crore as an financial Aid for Minor research programmes of the academic session 2019-20.

The Funds will be sponsoring 1179 Research projects out of which 399 are of science, 361 of engineering, 245 of commerce and 174 are of anthropology.

The sanctioning of this funds was to be done a year earlier in 2020 but was kept on hold due to the circumstances created by COVID-19 pandemic.

But now as there are improvements in the situations and research programmes are ready to be continued, the varsity has decided to disperse this amount.

The decision for providing financial Aid to minor research projects has been made after immense consideration and examination by an experts commitee.

Baliram Gaikwad, the registrar of Mumbai University said that this funds will be released in a phased manner as per the requirements of an individual project and its current status.

He also mentioned that the total amount granted to MU for minor research programmes is Rs. 4.2 Crore out of which 70 percent is currently being used in this funds.

This funds are not only released to facilitate the projects, but also to encourage the research studies among students and faculties of the university.

The amount sanctioned as research funds by MU in previous session 2018-19 was Rs. 2.3 Crore. This funds sponsored about 629 minor projects including all streams and disciplines.

However, the university has received research proposals with an increase of 87 percent this year. Thus the amount of funds are raised as research expenses have also increased.

The new academic session 2021-22 at mumbai university has already began virtually from July 14. The first semester will be completely held via online mode only.

Meanwhile the university has not issued any clarification over the attendence of research scholars and faculties at the campus. The MU might soon release a revised academic calender for them.
