A handbook on safe online learning in times of COVID-19 has been released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This book gives appropriate suggestions and solutions for students, teachers, and stakeholders to shift to digital technology in this covid pandemic. This book is available in NCERT’s official website- ncert.nic.in.

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhiryal Nishank tweeted that

“I urge you all to go through the basic dos and don’ts on how to use the internet safely.”

The book briefs the students about cyber-bullying and all the activities that a student shouldn’t indulge with. Also, it educated about the laws in the Indian jurisdiction to protect students and parents for any misfortunes online. Further, the book is equipped with the helpline numbers to contact for any sort of issue.

About 14 % of the country’s internet consumption is consumed by children aged between 5-11 years old. They total to about 71 million. The rest two-third is occupied by the age group of 12-29 years old. This statement was issued by the Internet and Mobile Association of India.

Prior to this book the CBSE has released a book of cybersecurity for the students of classes 9 to 12. Though the students are depending on the internet for information purposes, it is also essential that they should be aware of the dangers of open source as they can very misleading.

Furthermore, NCERT in association with the Cyber Peace Foundation and United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has launched ‘e-raksha’ competitions. This was initiated to spread awareness about digital citizenship among students, teachers, and parents. Also, few other alternative academic calendars have been issued by the CBSE, to ensure continuation in education amidst lockdown.
