Tamil Nadu Medical Colleges are in a hustle-bustle as Madras HC refuses to accept the plea of the state government to save 85% of medical seats for students of the state board and only 15% for students of other boards.

On June 22, an order was passed from the state government that focused on protecting the interests of 4.2 lakh medical candidates from Tamil Nadu board, giving that there were 4,685 students who had studied in the state under the CBSE.

The high court received a plea challenging this move pushing forth that there should be no discrimination on the basis on the educational boards to which the students’ schools are affiliated to when all students have equally appeared for NEET 2017.

Darnish Kumar, the petitioner, has also commented that reservations should only been permissible with regard to the schools’ location within state borders after the common merit list has been released. The petitioner states that discrimination on the basis of the school boards will lead to further discrimination among peers.

NEET’17 results were declared last week by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announcing 6,11,539 candidates qualified.
