While just after uploading draft National Education Policy (NEP) 2019 on the official website it face strong criticism by tamil speakers regarding the decision to make hindi as a compulsory language in all the schools. But NEP 2019 will bring some valuable changes in the education system.

It will make India a knowledge superpower, said G. Gopal Reddy, member, University Grants Commission.

While delivering a special address at the 9th convocation of the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) on Thursday, he said that India was once a ‘Vishwa Guru (teacher to the world)’ and it will again become one in the near future.

He also want that graduating students contribute to the development of the nation, he said that special focus was needed in conservation of the environment for future generations.

Rizwan Soomar, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of DP World Subcontinent delivered the convocation address and said that the role of institutions like AMET was crucial as the country was struggling with lack of skilled workforce.

He also appealed to students to focus on innovation that can address climate change.

Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) was awarded to Kiriti Guha, former Chairman and Managing Director, Wallem Ship Management, and Paul G.K. Little, Principal and Chief Executive, City of Glasgow College, UK.

G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of AMET presented the annual report.
