On 19th May, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has announced that the public exams for class 10 are cancelled while for class 12 are postponed untill further notice. The decision is taken in the view of prevailing COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The public exams includes both the practical and theory curriculum for the secondary, senior secondary and vocational courses. All this exams were scheduled to be held in June 2021. But now this exam is stands to be cancelled or deferred. The NIOS has also released an official notification regarding the announcement.

Another reason for cancellation of exam is said to be the continuous demand from student of class 10 and class 12. The students cited the reason that several state boards and Central boards like CBSE and CISCE has already deferred or cancelled their board exams then why still NIOS has not came up with any decision.

The NIOS has not yet announced any new tentative dates for class 12 exams. Regarding this, the institute has said that they are continuously observing the situations around pandemic and will have a review meeting on June 20. A notification will be released 15 days in advance prior to the new dates for commencement of exams.

And for class 10, as no exam will be held, the NIOS will plan to design an alternate criteria for the evaluation of students and preparation of their results. After the declaration of result, if any students is not satisfied with their scores then they will be allowed to appear In an On-Demand re-examination.

But this exams will be conducted only of the Institute finds the situations favourable. NIOS will soon release another notification regarding the evaluation criteria and results of class 10 students. The assessment criteria will also be shared once completed.
