In response to the written question, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Satyapal Singh informed the Lok Sabha on Monday that it had no plan to open a satellite campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) or the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs).
“There is no plan for the opening of a satellite campus or branches by JNU, IITs or IIMs. As a policy, the government does not encourage the establishment of satellite campuses of such educational institutions,” Singh said.
JNU Vice-Chancellor, Jagadesh Kumar announced in October that the university was planning to open a satellite campus outside the National Capital Region.
A study was also conducted to make the education feasible to the students in this particular discipline.
