It has been reported that the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be writing personalized letters with his signature to each letter addressing to the parents of the children studying in Government Schools.

The Letter asks about the well being of children and informs about the efforts the Government has made to enhance the standard of education in the state. The Principals of the Government schools have already received the letters signed by the Chief Minister himself. The Letter imparts an identical message, but it addresses every parent individually.

It begins with “Respected [parent’s name]. How is [child’s name] studies going? I am very concerned about [child’s name] studies. We have done a lot of work to make education in schools good.”

It imparts knowledge such as the new classrooms that have been built by the Government, new buildings have been constructed, also teachers and principals have been trained in other countries, it also informs about the better results received by the children studying in government schools than private schools, which has happened ‘for the first time in the country’, and it was also observed after that, many children were transferred to govt. schools from private schools by their parents by looking at the results.

The Letter also states the benefits and implementation of ‘Happiness Classes’ in the Govt. Schools.

“We want that [child’s name] studies and does very well for himself/herself and do your family’s name proud. Make him/her put in a lot of effort, educate him/her and make him/her a good person,” the letter states.

The Principals were informed about the letters through email instructing them to collect the letters from the central offices and distribute them further.

However, questions have still been raised, “A party is misusing personal details of students to do politics inside schools, and is using our efforts for that. This is exam season and instead of focusing on that, teachers are being made to track down students — as the letters mention only the name and not the student’s class or section — and distribute letters to them,” said the head of a northwest Delhi school.

It was observed that this proposal of sending individual letters came right after three weeks after Kejriwal addressed the people seeking vote for his party Aam Aadmi Party in the Lok Sabha Elections. He addressed to the people saying ‘if you love your children’ vote for their party at the inauguration of 11000 new classrooms in the state. Last month, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights wrote to the Directorate of Education talking about their own motion of filing a complaint regarding the “bad influence of election campaign in Delhi government schools”.
