Parents protested on Thursday against fee hike by private schools

The parents of the students studying in private-unaided schools, protested against one of private schools placed in South Delhi. According to the parents, the alleged school K.R Manglam, Greater Kailash imposed a fee hike of 12% ignoring the court’s order. The parents allegedly stated that “Authorities had cut-off the electricity supply in classrooms after we refused to pay the hiked fee.”

Delhi Government on April 2 countered the High Court to curb the tution fee hike of the students to restore the teacher’s pay upto 25%. On this the High Court on April 3rd put on hold the interim hike in fees by the private-unaided schools and the direction was on Monday extended till April 30, the date of hearing in the matter.

However, school Principal Sangeeta Arora said in her defence ” The High Court order on fee hike is not applicable to their school as it is built on a private land and not on Delhi Development Authority land.” She further added ” It is informed that the HC order referred in your mail pertains to school that have come up on private land. The allegation of the school increasing the fee despite HC order is therefore not tenable. The electricity blackout was not a deliberate attempt but due to power failure.”

The parents claimed that the alleged school has not taken any approval from the Directorate of Education (DoE) before hiking the fee, as it was precisely announced by the court itself.
